Sunday Lenten Reflection

 Good morning!

This Sunday we hear in the readings how God appeared to Moses in the burning bush and when He was asked His name responded ‘I Am who I Am. This’ he added ‘is what you must say to the sons of Israel: “I Am has sent me to you.” God's reply is both mysterious and yet complete -He is the essence of being Itself. He is greater than we can comprehend -more powerful and all-knowing, all-loving, all-merciful, all-just and all-good than we can even begin to fathom. And this in itself should give us great comfort because He is in charge of the universe -and He is in charge of every corner of our lives and hearts.
In the Gospels Jesus continues this revelation of God to Moses by placing Himself in the center of this "I AM" revelation -He continues it by telling the people 'I Am the Light of the world', 'I Am the Good Shepherd', 'I Am the Bread of Life', 'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life...' -by revealing Himself in a series of 'I Am' statements, He is showing us both His intimacy with the Father and His deep connection to our hearts from the very beginning of time... its pretty incredible. I linked here my podcast about these 'I Am' statements -it would be a great way to go deeper into this revelation God makes to Moses in the first reading today. What does it mean to be 'I Am' Himself?
Also in the second reading we hear about all of the miraculous graces God granted to the Israelites in the desert -how He guided them miraculously with food and water -and yet the people were left free to choose to accept these graces or not -to allow them to penetrate their hearts and turn them from 'hearts of stone to hearts of flesh -of LOVE' or not. That same choice is given in the Gospel -the fig tree is tended and even given another chance after it refuses to bear fruit... But God does expect for it to respond to the caretakers tending to bear fruit -otherwise it has no worth.
In our own lives we live in a vast desert. When people look around the world they are overwhelmed by the suffering around them both individually in their personal lives as well as on a global scale. But this atmosphere is no different than the situation that the Israelites found themselves in thousands and thousands of years ago. God provided water from a rock and bread from heaven for them -and He still today provides us miraculous graces to endure earth's exile. Yet we are still -like the fig tree -free and responsible to accept His work and graces in our lives and bear fruit for Him or not. The greatest fruit we can bear for Him is gratefulness and LOVE. Do our lives bear the fruit of LOVE for the Lord and our neighbors? You don't have to be rich, or popular or successful or big to bear fruit for God. All you have to do is receive to your hearts the graces He gives you and offer Him back a sacrifice of praise -to allow your own heart to be the burning bush where He consumes you with the fire of His Love without destroying you.... His Fire of Love actually makes you perfect.
Many incredible things to mediate on this week.
Thank you so much for all of your continued support. We are working on sending another 2000 books in Dari to Afghanistan for Easter. Please pray for this project -both financially and for the safety of all involved. I am also still searching for both a Russian and Ukrainian translator for "Out of the Darkness" -please lift this up to the Lord as well! And we are printing 1000 copies of the 'Holiness of Womanhood' in Spanish for Mexico right now -it will be distributed through Catholic Charities and used in a women's ministry. Please pray for this and all of our continued projects for Central America as well. And I am still searching for a Polish vendor in Poland for our books. Please pray for this as well.
THANK YOU for your prayers, your support and your love. YOU are the fruit God is pleased with in this world.
in His great Mercy and Love,
Mary

The Reality of Miracles and Spiritual Warfare.

I wrote a great post last night –much better than I can put together again now. But when I posted it my Facebook account froze and for 15 hours it won’t unfreeze, so I had to cancel the post.

My point was to share with you how God is tangible in His Love and Graces to us –even if many are oblivious to His presence around us. But just as God’s Hand is real in our lives, so is the reality of spiritual warfare. There are actual evil spirits whose entire energy is put into messing up the plan of God –and the plan of God for your lives. When they can’t get you to sin, then they just try to annoy you… and that is when you have to turn them against themselves –laugh –offer up the inconveniences of the cross and trust that God is ultimately in control.

I had a friend recently tell me that I should do an entire podcast about the miracles God does in my life –not all people experience God’s presence (and satan’s attack) as physically as I have at various times in my life –but it is something that is just as real in all of your lives as it is for me. Although the spiritual life is something usually left to faith (invisible), at times God allows us to see evidence of it in order to build our faith and strengthen our resolve to be committed to living out His Will no matter the cost.

I will share just a small portion of the pictures I have of miracles and warfare that I experienced the past few months. As I was cleaning out the pictures on my camera I realized I had quite a bit of this captured on film. I hope that this builds your faith in God’s presence in your lives, too… and quickens your step in your battle against the evil one who really doesn’t want for you to be holy.

Roses: St. Therese of Lisieux sends me roses when I pray to her for direction. She also sometimes makes me simply smell them everywhere –which is what happened last week as I finished a novena. Since I didn’t receive physical roses from her (nor Jesus) I went and bought myself some at Walmart. But about a week later I was teasing them about not even showing up with roses for me and I was reminded that I had some on my cupboard. I retorted, “But I had to buy them for myself.” And in my heart I heard Jesus say, ‘Not the white ones.’ When I looked at the bouquet that I bought I saw that the purple ‘filler flowers’ had bloomed these beautiful little white rose like flowers from their center. I don’t know what kind of flower that was and if that was normal for them to do or not, but I truly felt like Jesus had given me these white roses as His sign of love and as an answer to my intention.

The gold corpus: Lots of my rosaries and stuff turns gold… its just a sign that God is with me and its cool. The corpus on the relic of the true Cross that I have worn around my neck for 15 years turned gold immediately upon me putting it on the first time. Well, a few months ago when I woke up in the morning I noticed that the corpus was gone. I couldn’t find it and I changed into running clothes, but before I left for my parent’s house I looked in the bed one more time and found the corpus. When I arrived at my parents my Dad noticed that I had a corpus imprinted on my sweatshirt. And I did… but I had not been wearing that sweatshirt while I slept the night before. I had put it on after the corpus was gone. It was almost as if Jesus wanted to make sure that I still had an image of Him around my neck.

Lights at the cemetery: When I visited my brother’s grave around the time of the anniversary of his death last April these blue lights appeared in every picture I took. I felt as if it was him or an angel or God just saying that they were present with me praying there. Ironically, my grave someday will be to his left.

Oiling Holy Pictures/Papers: A couple of months ago (November) I moved apartments. As I was cleaning out my cupboard next to my bed I noticed that I had a pile of holy cards/writing mixed in with my tax papers and other important documents. But what was amazing was that the holy card I had of St. Therese was oozing oil –as was the holy card of St. Francis of Paola (the hermit patron saint against the demons of jealousy and lies) –and many of the papers I had written words from Jesus on. I won’t share them all because many of them are private, but here are a few of them. When they continued to ooze oil a week later my Dad came over to investigate. It was really amazing. Even the envelope holding my baptism/confirmation certificates were wet. BUT... the tax papers and other secular documents that were laying on top of and underneath the oozing stuff were totally dry. Just cool.

And although sometimes God does miracles in a tangible way to get our attention, sometimes He also allows the evil one’s battle against us to be tangible just to strengthen our resolve to fight harder. Satan only makes noise where God’s will is being done. Those of you who pray the rosary with me in the morning have seen several times when my camera went flying to the floor as if it had been knocked during the rosary. In fact, that happened during my podcast about the Infant Crucified Christ two weeks ago. That must have been a powerful podcast, because when I finished recording and went to the bedroom to finish uploading it, a crash came from the kitchen and the icon I had used of Mother Mary with the Child Jesus with a cross behind him had been thrown from the wall literally across the room and broken in half. A total bummer… my Dad (a woodsman) wasn’t able to fix it –he said that it was broken in a very strange way. I consider it a battle wound for Mary and Jesus and simply fiat. Other times statues, (plants? –go figure) and icons will be thrown down and broken. I always take it as a sign that I am doing something right. Several months ago when I finished an important work I went running and almost stepped on a blue racer snake –I had never seen such a snake in the 40 years I lived in that neighborhood growing up, nor anywhere in Indiana for that matter. Other times its just computer problems that come from nowhere –one day I emailed a priest a list of topics/questions for an interview we were going to have and he received all of the letters on top of each other. Other times my computer will freeze and flash three sixes… I just laugh and move on… but I share this because it shows you that the war for your soul is real.

St. Catherine of Siena said, ‘Be who God created you to be and you will set the world on fire!’ Satan doesn’t want that… so he fights you in the ordinary stuff of life to keep you from being holy. But always remember, like you see in these pictures, just as the battle is real –so is Jesus’ Grace. It is so awesome to know that we have a Savior and He ALREADY WON.

I hope this feeds your faith…

Episode 40 -Mary Kloska Speaks about Jesus and the Work of the Father's Divine Providence

My podcast this week is about God's Hand and Divine Providence in just about everything that happens to us in life.
Seriously, He is totally in control even in the midst of the worst things that happen... His Love sees and moves everywhere and He makes 'all things work for the good of those who love Him.' (Romans 8:28)
Please LISTEN, LIKE and SHARE!
I am sure that EVERYONE who lived through 2020 would be interested in knowing what the saints would say about God's Love for us this year. +++
Title: Episode 40 -Mary Kloska Speaks about Jesus and the Work of the Father's Divine Providence
Description: In this episode, Mary touches again on the topic of God the Father's action of Divine Providence in the life of Jesus, the Holy Family and in the lives of each soul created by Him in Love. She explains how God's action of love is present in each situation we encounter in life and how it is by surrendering to His will in everything that we become saints. Surrendering to Divine Providence simply means living 'Fiat' in imitation of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Mary relies heavily on the teachings about God's presence in the present moment, in one's ordinary daily duty and trustfully surrendering to the Divine Providence as laid forth by Fr. Jean Pierre de Caussade and St. Claude de la Colombière.

Fr. Larry Tucker, SOLT interviews Mary Kloska on Her New Music CD "FiAT." +

Happy Sunday!
This is especially for SOLT people and MUSICIANS! 😇🪕💿🎶🎵
If you are interested at all in the background behind my music, Fr. Larry Tucker, SOLT spent an hour interviewing me yesterday afternoon about my new CD "FiAT." +
Please LISTEN and SHARE!!
We talk about my family, how the Holy Spirit taught me music, the heart and prayer and soul behind it all, how it relates to Dylan, David Bowie, U2, Neil Young, the Beatles (not that I am proposing these people as spiritual models 😂 -we were simply speaking musically speaking) and Irish Folk music, as well as my music's possible future influence on the music industry and especially on Christian Music. Its funny, I was just trying to do a little CD for Jesus -but Fr. Larry with his great experience in the music industry (he just released a very popular CD "So Shine!") really sees something special in what I have done in the 'FiAT' CD.
It is amazing to me that when you give Jesus absolutely everything, how powerfully He can work. I gave up my entire life in the world -a husband and children and worldly success and even using my education in a practical way -so that Jesus could have all of me for whatever He wanted forever. And now He helps me write books, paint icons, do podcasts, speak languages, write music... I am not sure what exactly I am primarily -musician, artist, author, etc,... all I know is that I am Jesus'... that's my identity... and He can do whatever else He wants with me.
If you haven't listened to my CD yet, please LISTEN FOR FREE on YouTube. Its also available on all music outlets.

"Fiat." CD Will Be Released August 22nd, the Queenship of Mary

So, AUGUST 22 I RELEASE MY MUSIC CD -"FIAT".
CLICK on the picture on the below to LISTEN to a pre-view.
So, why not…? Why not publish a book in English, work on eight translations, get two more books ready for publication, write three more, keep up a blog, do weekly video podcasting and radio in multiple languages, open an Artist Shop full of icons and the like, and release a music CD all within the same month? Oh- and work full time& pray several hours a day... and stop by my parents to carry in their groceries, water their tomatoes and even try to brush my teeth once in a while? 😂😂😂Jesus is funny.
He is keeping this contemplative heart very busy these days.
I know, I know, "Just say, 'yes,' -one heartbeat after heartbeat...at a time' is all He asks.

So… I'm releasing a CD this week (August 22- if nothing goes wrong before then). But its all set to be released. I really want to gift to the world what Jesus has given to me for 30 some years. I mean, I'm 43, but really He’s intensely been forming me for about 30 years.
So on August 22 I will finally (after years and years of sitting on it) release that first CD of mine called “Fiat”.

I am waiting until August 22 because it's the feast of the Queenship of Mary and she is my Queen and my everything. It’s all for Her and with Her and in Her etc. etc. etc. So in order to honor Her I will share this little gift with anybody who would be interested in having it.

The CD is something that I professionally recorded many years ago. I made copies and gave it to some people and it's been used often on retreats. Those of you from Holy Cross College remember how my brother used it with campus ministry for all of the campus ministry retreats. It's simple guitar and voice -all of the songs that I wrote really were given to me in prayer -and the CD has a back up guitarist who was a priest friend of mine in Poland and who has asked to remain nameless.

I've actually never downloaded a song off the Internet myself. I've never used, let alone owned, an iPod. I know absolutely nothing about digital music. But my dear nephews in LA (who are in the music industry -the jingle for Mike's Hard Lemonade right now was written and produced by my nephew Matthew) have coached me a tiny bit and I think that I found a platform that can distribute my stuff without a whole lot of hullabullu on my part. It will be available on iTunes, Apple Music, AmazonMusic and about 150 other outlets and syndications. There will also be the possibility to order a hard copy CD from Amazon that they will fulfill. Their graphics aren’t quite as beautiful as mine, but Fiat. This is the path that the Lord opened before me.

I really hope that all of you come to love this music in the same degree that the students at Holy Cross did, that my priests and friends in Russia did, that the bishop and the people I shared it with an Africa did, and especially as my nieces and nephews have. And I do hope that sometime very soon I will find a way to professionally record my newest songs for a second CD. I really love that Maria Bambina one and I'll probably just put my own little phone recording of it back up for you all here on September 8.

I will let you know more details of how exactly you can get my new CD (both as a download or a physical CD) by the end of the week. I don't always understand what Jesus asks of me, but step by step we fulfill His will and travel towards heaven.

In the meantime, take a listen for free to one of the songs below -its my and everyone else's favorite.
"May You never be alone, Jesus, in the Fire of Your Love!"
Come Holy Spirit!!

African Orphans

EPISODE 20: MY AFRICAN TREASURES!!!
I can't believe I am already publishing my 20th radio/podcast/YouTube program. When I hesitated so long after being invited to do this (because I felt totally inadequate) Jesus told me to just start... to just say 'yes' to this weekend, to this program, to this this work here and now today. And by taking lots of little steps, I am so happy that I have already been able to share so many treasures with all of you in such a short time.
Come Holy Spirit. +

This week I am so excited to share with you all about the AFRICAN ORPHANS that I cared for years ago. The best is all of the photos and video footage that I added at the beginning and at the end of this program. At the very end you will meet my most special treasure from Africa... my niece Kadie who was an orphan in Ethiopia who my sister's family adopted after being inspired by all of the pictures and stories that I share with you here.

Please LISTEN and SHARE and remember to PRAY FOR OUR LITTLEST BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN ORPHANAGES!!

Title: Mary Kloska on Missionary Work with Orphans in Africa
Description: In this episode, Mary speaks about her work with orphan children in Africa. She describes how God led her there, as well as what her work looked like on a day to day basis. Including real footage, photographs and music, Mary brings alive the plight of orphan children -especially focusing on the babies she served in Tanzania. Mary inspires the listener to pray for these children, as well as to prayerfully consider helping them in more substantial ways through adoption and supporting adoptive families.

Episode 19: Mary Kloska on the Russian Spirituality of Poustinik (Hermit), Strannik (Pilgrim), Uridivoy (Holy Fool) and Staretz (Wise Elder)

One of my very best!! 😇 Just because I recorded it in my hermitage. 🏡
My podcast this week is on the RUSSIAN SPIRITUALITY of the Poustinik (HERMIT), Strannik (PILGRIM), Urodivoy (HOLY FOOL) and Staretz (WISE ELDER.)
Please LISTEN and SHARE!!
In this episode, I explain the Eastern Church's notion of living as a hermit, a pilgrim, a holy fool and a wise elder. Drawing deeply from Russian spirituality specifically, I explain what it means in one's heart to withdraw from the world as a hermit, to travel the earth as a pilgrim, to make up in reparation for Christ's foolishness of the Cross and to be filled with the wisdom of God as a spiritual elder/guide for others, regardless of one's age. Hopefully, I inspire people to take each of these four ideas and to find them in one's noraml, daily life as a Christian.

Just Mary's Fiat Life

Next Week's podcast will be about my work in Africa with orphans... here's a blog I wrote a few weeks before I left for africa 10 years ago:

Originally published: SUNDAY, AUGUST 15, 2010

Just Mary's 'Fiat' Life...

Mother Teresa once said: “I never look at the masses as my responsibility; I look at the individual. I can only love one person at a time - just one, one, one."
This is my problem.
This precisely is my problem in life. I cannot love a 'group' of people. I must love lots of individuals -all the individuals, in fact, in the whole world. That is who Jesus has placed before me to love.

I am often overwhelmed by this beautiful quote of Mother Teresa's. And it is because at the same time of discovering its truth in life, I also discovered the power of individual prayer for people. When's the last time you fathomed in awe over the power of prayer for a soul? When God lifts the dark veil that covers my eyes in life for just a moment, sometimes I'm amazed at the power that even one prayer prayed with the heart for another human being can be in changing their life forever. Often the answer to such a prayer comes many years after the words were whispered in one's heart -but suddenly, one day, without great explanation -the person's life just changes. Bam! The power of grace -stored up by our Wise Father in Heaven -to be used for another at the precise time He knows the individual will reap the greatest benefits from those graces. God is truly amazing in this. He knows how to squeeze the best profit out of each 'investment' of prayer we give to Him. And as I watch in wonder how even 'careless prayers' I prayed many years ago are answered today, it fills me with a feeling of greater responsibility to truly pray for all those I encounter on my road in life. Take a guy I was 'in love' with in high school. I 'prayed' for him so that he would ask me out. He never did -but 15 years later I hear how others in his family left the Church and he fell into drugs -but then somehow, seemingly miraculously, he changed his life and became a very faithful Catholic. Hidden grace -I like to think it was God's answer to my 'silly prayers' -He never wastes them, of course. There are so many examples I see like this. Take Tom -no one liked him -all he did was cause problems to his girlfriend's family -and so they prayed he would just go away. Instead, he went through this amazing conversion and is today the ideal husband, father and son-in-law. All because of prayer -prayer that God heard and answered in His Own wise way.

When I see such sharp answers to prayers, it makes me wonder what would happen to the kid I saw on the street last week digging through trash cans (yes, right here in Elkhart) if I started praying daily for him. Had anyone ever prayed for him? Where would he be in 15 years if I committed to praying for his soul daily? What difference would it make in his life? Such things plague me with a great feeling of overwhelmingness -for if individual love and prayers are so powerful, how could I ever possibly find enough time to pray for each person in the world in a specific way?

Now, some might argue with me, "God only expects you to help those He places before you." And in theory maybe they are right. But what about all those voices I hear in my heart -those He places before the eyes of my soul? That's an awful lot of people. And I consider each one of them 'family.' You can't love the masses, just individuals, Mother Teresa wisely said. And yet, my struggle comes in my literal taking of the Gospel and all Jesus taught to us. I'll illustrate my point with a story. I remember once in Russia giving my winter coat to a girl on the street. The priest with me corrected me, saying I could not just give all my things away or I would have nothing left. But my argument was thus: what if it was my little sister Kathy freezing while we walked home from Church? Wouldn't even he give his coat to her (since she was my little sister)? He fell into my trap and said, 'yes.' Ahhha! Well, If I truly am called to love each person in the world as my brother and sister in Christ -and if by living my life consecrated as Jesus' spouse I truly see all the souls in the world as my 'spiritual children' with Him -then wasn't I MANDATED to treat this homeless girl on the street the same way I would treat Kathy? And that problem is precisely my problem in loving and prayer. How many people suffer just because they don't have a big sister to sit up at night and intercede for them before God? And so my struggle continues...

Considering all this, I was quite excited when Jesus once again showed me a 'way out' of my struggle. Of course I can (and I do) pray for 'all people with cancer' when I prayed for Bobby. But there is another way I can 'reach all people' even being so tiny and incapable myself. Its through the concept of us the Church being one body in Christ. I don't have to touch each person in the world -if I can just set one person on fire the ripple effect can (I hope with the grace of prayer) take place. I can set one person on fire in Russia and then they can set Russia on fire as I move on to Germany. In the Office of Readings this week I understood the 'strategy of God' in my life and vocation more clearly. St. Theodoret of Cyr wrote:
"When a shepherd sees that his sheep have scattered, he keeps one of them under his control and leads it to the pastures he chooses, and thus he draws the other sheep back to him by means of this one."
All I have to do is love God profoundly wherever He places me, and He will lead others back to Himself simply through my being faithful to Him. All I have to do is love one person in the places I am sent, and He will touch and transform that entire country, all people suffering in the same way, through that one who I touched. If I can love a woman who had an abortion, then she can come to know Jesus more profoundly -and then Jesus will use her to convert and help heal others who had abortions (He often uses our wounds to do His greatest work) and in that way I am touching 'all of them' just by loving that one. Isn't Jesus beautiful in the way He unites us in His work?

And so, with that being said, Jesus is sending me once again on a pilgrim journey throughout the world. I already shared the story about 'Tanzania' with you all. I will be leaving again Sept. 7th to fly through Rome to Moshi (ironically I will be touching down in Etheopia and Kenya on my way -two more opportunities to 'touch souls' through prayer and simple love in my short stays in the airport in those countries). I will be staying at the Upendo Children's Home with the Missionary Sisters of the Most Precious Blood. Then from October 10-November 7th I'll be visiting some sister friends in Vladivostok. I've never been there, but that is where the American Maryknoll priests have their mission. Then I will be traveling to Cape Town, South Africa where I will be spending a month with the Pallotine Sisters who work with orphans/AIDS babies at their St. Joseph's Home. And then for December I will be flying over to East London, South Africa to spend my last month at Open Arms (an orphan home especially for AIDS children founded and run by a former Notre Dame Baseball player -cool story to read if you rummage through the webpage). I have to fly back through Poland -so I rerouted my flight from Warsaw to Wroclaw so I can see the Przybylos for 5 days before I land back state-side on January 10th.
My hope with this trip is to simply love Jesus among these people -and to share this love He showers on me when I beg Him to with the world. I ask for your prayers for me during this time I am 'planting His seeds' of Love, and 'stealing His sheep' back to His Heart. Such travels are my cross -and only with your prayer can His power of Love conquer my weakness.

But please don't worry about me -He carries me, and I'm already living totally for Him in heaven (this life is just a mirage compared to eternity).
Please also pray that I can be faithful to the love and work He has for me in this world. If I miss just one sheep -than the ripple effect of 'missed grace' passed forward could be devastating. Love makes my desire to serve Jesus and the world radically huge. But Love also makes me realize that alone I can do nothing -and so I must let go of all control and entrust all those souls I love into His great wounded Hands of Mercy.
And so I pray:
Jesus, be our Savior.
And please fill in the holes we leave by the weakness in our lives. Please touch and make others' lives better even in spite of our great mistakes.
May Your Love perfect all! Amen. +
