Mary Kloska Interviews Canadian Sculptor Timothy Schmaltz About His Work

This is really worth your watch!
Last night I was able to speak with Timothy Schmaltz again for an hour and a half. He spoke about the beginnings of his work and explained about the spiritual aspect of being a sculptor. He tells about the Canadian Bishops petitioning for his statue (my favorite) called 'A Quiet Moment' -where you see St. Joseph holding Our Lady holding Baby Jesus -to be given to Pope John Paul II who wanted it for a Vatican chapel. He also explains much about my second favorite -his Padre Pio in the Confessional work -which he actually did in total solitude in his studio in China.
We accidentally never got to the part about his huge Dante project (he's doing it with my publisher). He is making sculptures for all of the Cantos that are being published with a new translation. I love Dante, but he's always been a hard read for me. This translation is super! And Timothy's sculptures that illustrate each one are incredible. They eventually will be bronze casted and they are looking for a venue in Italy where he can set them up permanently, but that is after he tours the US with them. They need donors for this project, but anything extra or that they make from it he has arranged to have donated to the Vatican charity with migrants. For his Dante work, see here:

I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did!

Episode 22: The Queenship and Titles of Mary

Episode 22 -Mary Kloska Speaks on the QUEENSHIP and TITLES OF MARY.
At the beginning there’s a great rendition of HAIL HOLY QUEEN if you only want to listen to that!
The second part is more like prayer than podcast as we pray through jillion’s of Mary’s different titles.
Description: In this episode, Mary explains what it means for Our Lady to be our Queen. She includes some quotes and writings from the saints, as well as papal documents on the matter. She also spends the second half of the program praying through the many, many 'titles of Mary'.

Are YOU trying to be a SAINT?

 THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 03, 2011

Are YOU trying to be a SAINT?

People in this world aspire to be lots of things –the best doctor, the best salesman, the best fireman, the best banker, the best football player, the best movie star, the best chemist. Heroism was programmed into the human heart by the Creator for a purpose –but this purpose is to drive us to reflect His Own Perfection. This desire is given to us to be used to make us strive to be the ‘best person God created us to be’ –and in doing this, we fulfill each of our God-given vocations to be a saint.
‘Be a saint? Who, me?’ you may ask.
We each are called to truly be a saint. ‘St. Irvin of Elkhart, St. Claudia Nolan, St. Nick of South Bend, St. Kathleen of Granger, St. Amy –teacher, wife and mother, St. Joey Casimir –fisherman, skyper and stay-at-home dad –even St. Brad Pitt, the actor and St. Obama, the President’ may make us chuckle a bit at first –but truly, we are all called to be as such in life. Anything less is a tragedy. Yes, I said Anything less is a tragedy. In fact, French Philosopher Leon Bloy once said, ‘The only true tragedy in life, is not to become a saint.’
The whole purpose God had in creating and putting us little humans here on earth was to allow us to participate in His plan of Love. We were not created for ourselves nor were we simply created as an asset to society (even if God does love and use us for these two purposes as well). But ultimately –we were created for God –to participate in His plan of Love and (to be honest) simply for the purpose in making God’s Love visibly beautiful. I was reflecting on this walking through the woods yesterday looking at all the beautifully painted leaves. God is amazing, you know? He paints each leaf individually with such beauty –and the majority of these leaves are never seen by anyone but Himself and the angels. The same is with snowflakes, the bottom depths of the oceans, the innards of a molecule on Jupiter. God creates all with beauty and order simply because that is Who God is –these things are reflections of Himself –whether or not they are recognized or appreciated by any other. The same should be true of our lives.
God created us with an inner purpose –an inner purity and beauty different than that of every other human individual who ever has or will live –in order to reflect a different aspect of His holy Love. That is the purpose of our lives –to reflect His Face in all we think, do and say. We all were created to ‘be perfect as the Heavenly Father is perfect’ (Matthew 5:48) –which is to say, to ‘be holy because He is holy.’ (1 Peter 1:16)
‘And how does God expect little fallen me to be perfect and holy?’ you might ask. But the answer is very simple. As simple as a little child –we simply must become one.
We are asked to be holy and perfect in His Love. And His Love acts in us in two ways –in grace and in mercy. We either have His grace to help us love perfectly, or we have His mercy that cleans up our ‘mess’ when we fall from grace. But if we try in all our thoughts, actions, intentions and words to be full of His grace and mercy (grace when we succeed in loving humbly, patiently, purely, self-sacrificingly, courageously, meekly, forgivingly, peacefully –and mercy when we ask His forgiveness as soon as we see ourselves fail in these things) then we are perfect –not because of ourselves, but because of Him.
What does it look like to be a saint?
The only formula we have is to do God’s will in all things with love each day and to teach others (especially our children) to do the same. St. Paul explains that this means to ‘Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And over all these put on love, that is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body. And be thankful… And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:12-15, 17) He also tells us to guard our thoughts (and to protect the thoughts of our young children as well) by strictly monitoring what we put into our minds through our eyes and ears. He says that only ‘whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise’ to think about these things (Philippians 4:8) –that means the TV shows we watch, the music we listen to, the blogs we read, the thoughts we think and the jokes we tell must somehow reflect an aspect of God (His love, His purity, His peace, or His sort of holy humor). These two passages are enough to help us become saints –doing God’s will in all things with love each day and teaching others (through our example as parents, brothers, co-workers, daughters, etc.) to do the same.
This definition of holiness is how we will be judged when we die. It is not important if we had 700 million dollars or only three in the bank –all God will ask is what we did with it. It will not matter if we studied at Harvard or served in the Army or were a maid for the King of England in 1273. All that will matter is how we fulfilled with pure love the duty and will God put before us in our lives. At one of the Masses I attended for the Feast of All Saints the priest asked how many saints existed (numberless, of course, when you consider all the non-canonized people as well). Then he opened up a roll of paper listing all the canonized saints –and this roll stretched throughout the church. He mentioned the martyrs, the hermits, the moms, the children, the teenagers, the bishops, the prophets… No two saints look alike, because each is called to reflect a different aspect of God’s Love. How boring it would be if each color of the rainbow was the same! And so is true of our lives. Each person is a different part of His Body (not all are called to be hands, so we should not criticize ‘feet’ just because we are ‘hands.’) Each is called to something different. Some are called to public schools, some are called to Catholic schools, some are called to homeschool, some are called to no schools (in backwoods Africa J ). Some are called to long marriages, others are called to overcome the tragedy of a spouse’s death. Some are called to worship in a Latin Mass, others in a mission parish. Some are called to find God mystically at age 3 and others are created to come to know him only as an adult. Some are called to be a missionary by living radical virtue as a modern day stock broker in New York. Not all were called to attend daily Mass (impossible for those on a battlefield or home with sick children), not all were called to preach retreats, not all were called to write for newspapers or be priests –but each were called to simply do God’s will for their lives in love. Some are Eskimos, some Tribal leaders in Africa, some Counts in Germany, some Japanese Monks. The point is –the saint each of us were created to be helps fulfill God’s plan by us simply be that. Filling up His will for our lives in a spirit of Love. But this is the key. Every word, action, thought and intention of our lives must be filled with His Love‘Just be Mary,’ I was told by a holy priest in Confession once. Yes, the best way I can serve God in this world is to be ‘myself’ –not to imitate another person in personality or work (although imitation of virtues is a good thing), but simply to try to be the saint He created me to be. This I do by trying to accomplish His little will for me daily with His Own spirit of Love. And where I fall short, His Mercy is sure to stoop down and ‘help.’
To be a saint means to have a Heart like Jesus’ –to carry His imprint on your heart (like a identical twin of His love) wherever His will carries you. This is the key to Mary’s perfection of holiness –Her Heart was the identical twin of Her Son’s in virtue and Love (even if she lived this in Her Own personal, feminine, motherly way). See, even Mary had her unique calling. Jesus was not ‘Mother of the Savior’ –Mary was. But she was this in the highest perfection because Her Heart contained a perfect imprint of Her Son’s Love and Virtue. That is what matters in life –not that our lives look exactly like the saints or our neighbors in what we do, but instead that they look just like Jesus’ in Love and Virtue. So we all might as well stop comparing ourselves since this just leads to self-destruction. The only Person Who should be compared to our lives is Jesus Himself –and in His Light we will see where we need to grow in imitating His thoughts about people, His ways of placing Love absolutely everywhere.
Being a saint is not only for the special or strong –but it is a call of God for all people during all of their lives. No matter where God has planted you in life (in a convent, in a business, in a mall or at home as a mom), He has given you the grace to be a saint. Don’t waste this continual gift of grace –for this is the ‘talents’ he entrusts to us and for which we will be accountable to Him when we die. Use the grace –either perfectly in love, or perfectly by accepting the gift of His mercy covering you when you hold your faults to His Light.
So there is no need to compare, to judge or be jealous of other people’s lives –instead our energy should be put in ‘minding our own business’ –which is ultimately the ‘business of love’ –fulfilling our duty, loving God in everything and loving all our different ‘neighbor saints’ as ourselves (regardless how irritating it is when their faults rub up against our own). Let us encourage each other with a true spirit of holy love –encourage each other to discern and fulfill God’s will for our lives by following Christ’s particular call of Love to each of us. That is what our world needs today –not competition, but encouragement. The angels work in perfect support and harmony with each other –and we should do the same. That is why Jesus came to earth –to make us one. He prayed, “That they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me…” (John 17:22-23) Just as each Person of the Trinity is separate, but united as truly One God in Love, so two we are each called to be separate saints, united in a spirit of holy Love. And what Jesus is saying in essence, is that when we live this ‘harmony of difference’ as He desires, this will be the greatest word of evangelization spoken to the world. I see this truth played out so often in convents, in parishes, in schools and even in our big family. We are all called to different things –but if we try to live with the mind and heart of Jesus in all times, places, conversations, work, etc., then a peaceful spirit of Love will begin to flow out from us to the world. What if each piece of a clock wanted to be the face –or each football player a quarterback? What chaos would reign! Each must do his assigned duty in faithful Love. And only then will God’s Kingdom truly come to reign on earth.
Let’s try to truly be saints from this day forward –and our hope and joy is that where we fall in grace and love, Jesus is waiting to pick us up and wash us in His mercy –if only we humbly will accept our dire need of it.

Episode 21: Mary Kloska Speaks on Her New Book, "The Holiness of Womanhood."

“The more a woman is Holy, the more she becomes a woman.”- Archbishop Fulton Sheen
My new radio/podcast video program this week is:
Episode 21: Mary Kloska Speaks on Her New Book, "The Holiness of Womanhood."
At the beginning I sing a NEW SONG called, “The Woman of Love” that I wrote about JESUS and MARY and WOMEN.
I hope that by going through the book with you, all will be enticed to buy and read it.
Please LISTEN, LIKE and SHARE.

Description: In this episode, Mary discusses her newly published book, "The Holiness of Womanhood." Sitting before an icon she painted of images of Jesus with women in the Gospels and opening with a song she wrote about Our Lady and the women in the icon, Mary creatively unveils the multifaceted wisdom of God's true vocation to live holiness in womanhood. Mary takes the listener step by step through the various chapters of her book explaining an overview of what is covered in each one. She ultimately strives to unite each woman's heart with the Heart of Jesus -Who through His Suffering and Death recreated womanhood, healing it back to the Father's original design for femininity. She encourages male listeners to recognize and respect the great gift God entrusted to them in women, and to see and love Our Lady in each woman he encounters. She ends by drawing everything back to Our Lady, the archetype of womanhood and God's masterpiece of femininity.

"Fiat." CD Will Be Released August 22nd, the Queenship of Mary

So, AUGUST 22 I RELEASE MY MUSIC CD -"FIAT".
CLICK on the picture on the below to LISTEN to a pre-view.
So, why not…? Why not publish a book in English, work on eight translations, get two more books ready for publication, write three more, keep up a blog, do weekly video podcasting and radio in multiple languages, open an Artist Shop full of icons and the like, and release a music CD all within the same month? Oh- and work full time& pray several hours a day... and stop by my parents to carry in their groceries, water their tomatoes and even try to brush my teeth once in a while? 😂😂😂Jesus is funny.
He is keeping this contemplative heart very busy these days.
I know, I know, "Just say, 'yes,' -one heartbeat after heartbeat...at a time' is all He asks.

So… I'm releasing a CD this week (August 22- if nothing goes wrong before then). But its all set to be released. I really want to gift to the world what Jesus has given to me for 30 some years. I mean, I'm 43, but really He’s intensely been forming me for about 30 years.
So on August 22 I will finally (after years and years of sitting on it) release that first CD of mine called “Fiat”.

I am waiting until August 22 because it's the feast of the Queenship of Mary and she is my Queen and my everything. It’s all for Her and with Her and in Her etc. etc. etc. So in order to honor Her I will share this little gift with anybody who would be interested in having it.

The CD is something that I professionally recorded many years ago. I made copies and gave it to some people and it's been used often on retreats. Those of you from Holy Cross College remember how my brother used it with campus ministry for all of the campus ministry retreats. It's simple guitar and voice -all of the songs that I wrote really were given to me in prayer -and the CD has a back up guitarist who was a priest friend of mine in Poland and who has asked to remain nameless.

I've actually never downloaded a song off the Internet myself. I've never used, let alone owned, an iPod. I know absolutely nothing about digital music. But my dear nephews in LA (who are in the music industry -the jingle for Mike's Hard Lemonade right now was written and produced by my nephew Matthew) have coached me a tiny bit and I think that I found a platform that can distribute my stuff without a whole lot of hullabullu on my part. It will be available on iTunes, Apple Music, AmazonMusic and about 150 other outlets and syndications. There will also be the possibility to order a hard copy CD from Amazon that they will fulfill. Their graphics aren’t quite as beautiful as mine, but Fiat. This is the path that the Lord opened before me.

I really hope that all of you come to love this music in the same degree that the students at Holy Cross did, that my priests and friends in Russia did, that the bishop and the people I shared it with an Africa did, and especially as my nieces and nephews have. And I do hope that sometime very soon I will find a way to professionally record my newest songs for a second CD. I really love that Maria Bambina one and I'll probably just put my own little phone recording of it back up for you all here on September 8.

I will let you know more details of how exactly you can get my new CD (both as a download or a physical CD) by the end of the week. I don't always understand what Jesus asks of me, but step by step we fulfill His will and travel towards heaven.

In the meantime, take a listen for free to one of the songs below -its my and everyone else's favorite.
"May You never be alone, Jesus, in the Fire of Your Love!"
Come Holy Spirit!!

African Orphans

EPISODE 20: MY AFRICAN TREASURES!!!
I can't believe I am already publishing my 20th radio/podcast/YouTube program. When I hesitated so long after being invited to do this (because I felt totally inadequate) Jesus told me to just start... to just say 'yes' to this weekend, to this program, to this this work here and now today. And by taking lots of little steps, I am so happy that I have already been able to share so many treasures with all of you in such a short time.
Come Holy Spirit. +

This week I am so excited to share with you all about the AFRICAN ORPHANS that I cared for years ago. The best is all of the photos and video footage that I added at the beginning and at the end of this program. At the very end you will meet my most special treasure from Africa... my niece Kadie who was an orphan in Ethiopia who my sister's family adopted after being inspired by all of the pictures and stories that I share with you here.

Please LISTEN and SHARE and remember to PRAY FOR OUR LITTLEST BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN ORPHANAGES!!

Title: Mary Kloska on Missionary Work with Orphans in Africa
Description: In this episode, Mary speaks about her work with orphan children in Africa. She describes how God led her there, as well as what her work looked like on a day to day basis. Including real footage, photographs and music, Mary brings alive the plight of orphan children -especially focusing on the babies she served in Tanzania. Mary inspires the listener to pray for these children, as well as to prayerfully consider helping them in more substantial ways through adoption and supporting adoptive families.

Pray bravely...

Well, He did it!
Jesus finally did it.
He answered my prayer and so now I am overwhelmed. 😅🌻
He somehow combined together in my life these two spiritual objectives that I have prayed over for 20 years and I'm about to take these down from my bathroom wall because His trust in me is just too much. Sometimes I think Jesus forgot how little and incapable little Mary is. I am seriously tempted to stop praying this:

#1.) The Prayer of Jabez.
I have prayed it for years. God expanded my territory all over the world, to all ethnicities, languages, age groups, socio-economic classes, religions -in active ministry, as a contemplative hermit, in simple everyday coffee drinking ☕️ Aunt Mary life... and now through social media (which I am brand-new to within the past year) I can't handle any more 'expansive territories'. I am not famous like famous Catholic musicians, actors, apologists or important people. I am truly 'just little Mary.' BUT, over 5000 people have personally contacted me over the past 6 weeks... I can't keep up. I don't even have time to pray about how Jesus wants me to answer each one like I always do... I just follow my gut.

It broke my heart today when someone messaged me angry that I wouldn't chat with him. I tried to explain what I did on that post a few weeks ago -if he had some specific or important questions then ask, but I couldn’t just chit chat- and he wrote me that "Jesus always made time for EVERYONE." I am just too little. Too limited. I am trying to meet people solely to help them get to heaven -and the best way I see that (especially with my work and contemplative needs) is to reach many through books, podcasts, etc., I could repeat myself over and over and over to people about interior healing or humility or trust... but I can't... so I told everyone at one time through podcasts. This is all such a sacrifice for me, I wish it would be enough for people... I wish they could see my love. I would LOVE to have the time to get to know some of these incredible people who contact me, some because we could bear greater fruit together, others in order to help with their problems, etc., The opportunities to help people become saints are so expansive right now I simply can't keep up. Yes, God wants my spirituality spread to people everywhere... how could He not want me to share the Catholic Church's riches with all those begging from me... this is just so complicated with the limits of time. I have such a deep need for solitude and prayer... such a pile of work in so many different languages and areas... so little time... Like U2 would say, I am constantly 'Running to Stand Still.'

The Prayer of Jabez works... if you pray for God to conform you to Himself and then to use you expansively to conform others, He will without limit -because His desires for each human heart are so limitless. I always thought that I would die someday from a melted heart... just from my heart being such a fire of His Love that it would melt... but these days I think I might die of my heart exploding with so much of His grace and love for people everywhere... everywhere that I cannot reach by myself. These days when my only strength -only support -only help is His Thorn in my side I hear Him encourage me with a whisper... 'My Grace is Sufficient for Thee.'

#2.) "Be Who You Are." St. Catherine of Sienna said this... but my confessor has pounded this into my head for a decade. "Why do you care what people think, Mary? Do what God wants. It doesn't matter what some Bishop or your family or the world or yada yada think of you. Please Jesus. Just be "Mary." That's all He desires." And then... St. Catherine says through that alone you will 'set the world afire.'

Well, I am getting messages from all of you of incredible miraculous ways that God has brought me to you as an answer to your prayers whispered in fear, in dejection, in hopelessness... in Pakistan... in Sri Lanka... in Egypt... in Colombia and Brazil. "I prayed and then God showed me your profile on Facebook and you are the answer to my prayer." How can anyone possibly say this to little 'ol 'Mary Kloska'? They can not because of me, but because of Jesus Who I have tried to allow to live as a fire of Love in me. Jesus said, "I came to set the earth on fire and how I wish it were already ablazing!" Then many years later He inspired St. Catherine of Sienna to say, "Be who God created you to be and you will set the world on fire..." We can answer this desire of Jesus' (His desire for the world to be set on fire) simply by being who God created us to be. 🔥

Three or four people have contacted me and literally asked if I could bring them to the US (because their situations were so dire) and they would be my slave and do whatever I needed. First of all, that is sad and impossible for me to do... but secondly, my response was that God was present with them where they were. He didn't want a knight in shining armor to come and take all suffering from them by bringing them to a Hollywood life (which I completely don't live, by the way.) God needs saints everywhere. And that was my answer to them. I can't be in Asia right now... but they can. And there are souls who will not get to heaven unless they remain in their country -in their difficult situations -with hearts trusting Jesus, calling out to Jesus, radiating Jesus... God needs them to be saints right where they are.

So I write this today to encourage you to pray bravely, fiercely, radically... don't fear to ask Him to enlarge your territory (for His great purposes) and don't fear when He does it... just surrender to His work, His plan, step by step. I am like a one-year-old standing on Jesus' feet holding His hands and He is stepping, walking, doing all. I am just with Him. That's how He wants to work IN EVERYONE'S LIFE.
Everyone's.
And don't seek to please others... seek only to please God... don't seek to just carry one candle into the world... be who He created you to be and then allow Him to be a fire in you. I spoke of this in the podcast I posted on Russian spirituality. Don't be a little lamp plugged into the wound of His Heart... allow His Heart to unite with yours and be a Fire of Love within you. Don't just speak words from time to time that spread light... like lightbulbs coming from your mouth... instead allow Him (both in joy and in pain) to CONSUME you with the fire of His Love and then be a fire with Him.

That's probably enough for tonight.... Rest in Him. And never be content with being less then who He created you to be, which in turn will transform you into fire.... in this, you can spread His Love like wildfire over all the earth (and into purgatory too! 🙂 )

"At the end of life we will solely be judged on Love." -St. John of the Cross

My book is here!!

A few weeks after surgery everyone felt it safe enough to visit my Mom recovering from surgery. Here’s a few pictures from this afternoon- staring my newest nephew Matthew, a special picture with Olivia who took the picture of me on the back cover of the book and a whole bunch of excited kids. I even managed to get a few great pictures of my Mom, which rarely happens. All of the kids were inspired to write books and do art like me. In fact, I told them that if they work hard on some Catholic writing and art, I will feature them with their work in an upcoming podcast. #bewhoyouareandsettheworldonfire

Episode 19: Mary Kloska on the Russian Spirituality of Poustinik (Hermit), Strannik (Pilgrim), Uridivoy (Holy Fool) and Staretz (Wise Elder)

One of my very best!! 😇 Just because I recorded it in my hermitage. 🏡
My podcast this week is on the RUSSIAN SPIRITUALITY of the Poustinik (HERMIT), Strannik (PILGRIM), Urodivoy (HOLY FOOL) and Staretz (WISE ELDER.)
Please LISTEN and SHARE!!
In this episode, I explain the Eastern Church's notion of living as a hermit, a pilgrim, a holy fool and a wise elder. Drawing deeply from Russian spirituality specifically, I explain what it means in one's heart to withdraw from the world as a hermit, to travel the earth as a pilgrim, to make up in reparation for Christ's foolishness of the Cross and to be filled with the wisdom of God as a spiritual elder/guide for others, regardless of one's age. Hopefully, I inspire people to take each of these four ideas and to find them in one's noraml, daily life as a Christian.
